Women's Lacrosse Drops Second Conference Matchup

Mavs lose 21-3

BUFFALO, N.Y.- The Medaille women's lacrosse team had their second conference match-up of the season against St. Mary's College of Maryland. The Mavs lost.to put them 2-6 on the season and 0-2 in the conference.

The Mavs had a tough battle throughout the first quarter but were able to obtain the first draw control of the game by Cameron Briggs (West Seneca, NY, West Seneca East). Kara Anderson (Mississauga, ON, Lorne Park Secondary) and Katelynn Deveans (Clinton, NY, Clinton) were both able to get a shot off but were unsuccessful. The Seahawks did a good job at keeping Medaille out of their half with the score at 0-9 at the end of the first.

In the second quarter, Briggs was able to get the Mavs on the scoreboard with a goal one and a half minutes in. The Seahawks kept on the pressure, making it hard for the Mavs to find their rhythm and develop their offense. The half ended 1-15.

To start the second half the Mavs came out aggressive with Emma Grimm (Watertown, N.Y., Watertown) and Erin Hardick (Buffalo, NY, Sacred Heart) picking up multiple ground balls each for the Mavs on defense. Briggs stayed strong on defense not letting her opponents into the arc. Out of a timeout called in the third quarter, the Mavs were able to execute an offense but ran out of time due to a shot-clock violation. The score at the end of the quarter was 1-18.

In the fourth quarter, the Mavs were able to force a shot clock violation for the Seahawks that was converted into a free position attempt for Hardick. Hardick was then able to score the second goal of the game for the Mavs. Briggs was able to force a turnover for the Mavs and Gabi Accurso (West Seneca, NY, West Seneca East) took the ball upfield into Seahawk territory. Briggs earned a free position attempt that ended up assisting Deveans for a goal. Shyanne Trinh (Dorchester, MA, Stoughton) took the ball coast to coast to finish off the game at 3-21.

Tatiana Wright (Stratford, CT, Bunnell) was able to make nine saves for the night. Briggs picked up four ground balls and had four draw controls. Deveans and Anderson both had two shots on goal.
