LANCASTER, P.A.- The Medaille women's lacrosse team traveled to Lancaster Bible College for their first UEC conference match-up of the season. The Mavs lost 11-12 in the last three minutes of play. This puts them at 2-5 on the season.
In the first quarter, the Mavs started strong gaining the draw control and getting the first shot off of the game but were unsuccessful. The first goal scored by the Mavs was made by
Kara Anderson (Mississauga, ON, Lorne Park Secondary) while the team was a man down. The Changers then responded with two back-to-back goals. Anderson scored another goal, for her 12
th goal on the season. A ground ball picked up by
Sara Geiser (West Seneca, NY, Mount Mercy Academy) led to a free position shot that was good for her 12
th goal on the season. The end of the quarter concluded 3-4.
In the second quarter,
Erin Hardick (Buffalo, NY, Sacred Heart) scored her third goal for the season and the fourth goal of the game for the Mavs. Shortly after Hardick was successful again around the crease to tie the game up at 5-5. With 30 seconds remaining in the half, Anderson scored man down for the Mavs to go into halftime 6-7.
To start the third quarter, Medaille came out strong, gaining possession by
Cameron Briggs (West Seneca, NY, West Seneca East). A goal shot by
Katelynn Deveans (Clinton, NY, Clinton) was good, assisted by
Irelyne Tarbell (Akwesasne, NY, Salmon River) to tie the game 7-7. Not long after a ground ball picked up by Anderson resulted in another goal for the Mavs. Briggs was then able to find her window for a goal, assisted by Geiser. The combo was on fire with another goal by Briggs assisted again by Geiser to put the Mavs up by three. The Chargers fought back keeping Medaille goalless for the rest of the quarter. The third ended with the Mavs up by one, 10-9.
In the final quarter, Briggs scored a free position shot, man down, that was assisted by Hardick. Despite the hard work put in by the Mavs, picking up multiple ground balls, they were unable to capitalize on offensive. The game resulted in a score of 11-12.
Anderson scored a total of four goals and Briggs had three. Briggs was also able to pick up three ground balls and had five draw controls.
Shyanne Trinh (Dorchester, MA, Stoughton) grabbed five ground balls and Geiser had two assists.
The Mavs next game is at home on Saturday, April 2 at 2:00 p.m against St. Mary's College of Maryland.
