GREENVILLE, P.A. – The Medaille women's lacrosse team traveled to Thiel College for the sixth game of the season. The Mavs lost 8-14 to put them at 2-4 on the season.
To start the game
Cameron Briggs (West Seneca, NY, West Seneca East) scored the first goal in just under three minutes of play.
Kara Anderson (Mississauga, ON, Lorne Park Secondary) followed up with a goal unassisted to put the Mavs up 2-0 on the game. The Tomcats scored a goal man-up at the six-minute mark. Briggs then scored her second goal of the game with just under five minutes in the first quarter. This was then answered with two goals by the Tomcats' Ashlyn Wightman to go into the second quarter 3-3.
The Mavs had a tough start to the second quarter with five back-to-back goals from Thiel College. With three and a half minutes left Briggs scored her third goal of the game assisted by
Sara Geiser (West Seneca, NY, Mount Mercy Academy). This put the score at 4-8.
To start the second half the teams battled, going scoreless until there were six and a half minutes left in the quarter with a goal by
Natalia Wojcik (Staten Island, NY, Susan E. Wagner). The Tomcats then answered with two more goals. Ending the third quarter 5-10.
Briggs started off the fourth quarter with her fourth goal of the game. With seven minutes left in the game,
Skyler Holzman (Lancaster, NY, Lancaster) scored another goal for the Mavs. This was shortly followed up with a goal from Anderson who was assisted by
Irelyne Tarbell (Akwesasne, NY, Salmon River). Thiel College ended the game with three more goals with a final score of 8-14.
Katelynn Deveans (Clinton, NY, Clinton) was able to pick up six ground balls and Holtzman and
Shyanne Trinh (Dorchester, MA, Stoughton) each grabbed five of their own. Briggs made four out of her seven shots on goal and caused four turnovers.
Tatiana Wright (Stratford, CT, Bunnell) made nine saves in goal for the day. The Mavs only committed 26 turnovers compared to Thiel's 33.
The Mavs will be on the road again next Saturday, March 26 to play against Lancaster Bible College for their game at 4:00 p.m.
