BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Medaille College women's volleyball team grabbed their first win of the season against the Wells College Express. The Mavericks won in three sets, 25-14, 25-18, and 25-22.
With
Chase Luebeck (Troy, IL, Triad) at the service line, the Mavs jumped to an early seven to one lead to kick off the first home match of the season. Multiple missed serves and scoring opportunities for the Express prevented them from gaining any serious momentum. Medaille took the first set 25-14.
In the second set, The Mavs continued to dominate at the net and the service line. Like the first set, the Express struggled to string together multiple points but were able to clean up some mistakes to threaten Medaille's lead. The Mavs took the second set 25-18.
In the third set, the resilience of the Mavericks was on full display. The Express took all the momentum early in the first set forcing coach John Forman to call a timeout down four to eight. The Mavs battled back and forth with the Express until midway through the third set. Near the end of the set, the Express were close to mounting a comeback but the Mavs took the win 25-22.
Game leaders for the Mavericks were
Halle Bogas (Cleveland, OH, Normandy) with eight kills,
Haley Kennedy (Chestermere, AB, Chestermere) with six kills and 22 assists, and
Adrianna Parsons (East St. Paul, MB, Miles Macdonell Collegiate) with seven kills and 11 digs.
The women's volleyball team will be at Hilbert College this Friday to take on the Buffalo State Bengals at 5:00pm to kick off the Medaille/Hilbert Invitational.
