Mavs Volleyball Split at Medaille/Hilbert Invitational

Mavs Beat SUNY Poly 3-0 Fall to Buff State 0-3

BUFFALO, NY - The Medaille College Women's Volleyball kicked off the Medaille/Hilbert Invitational with a 3-0 win over SUNY Polytechnic Institute 25-9, 25-15, 25-19. In the afternoon, the Mavs lost a close match with Buffalo State 21-25, 18-25, 20-25.

Game 1
Led by captain Halle Bogas (Cleveland, OH, Normandy), the Mavs were in total command of the first set vs SUNY Poly. Bogas went four for nine hitting .333 to keep the pressure on SUNY Poly. Haley Kennedy (Chestermere, AB, Chestermere) chipped in five digs and went on a five-point service run to extend the lead. As a team, the Mavs finished set one with .240 hitting percentage compared to SUNY Poly's -.080.

The momentum from the first set continued for Bogas where she put up seven kills and zero hitting errors. Bogas also put up six service aces in the second set. Chase Luebeck (Troy, IL, Triad) had a very efficient second set with three kills on five attempts good for a .600 hitting percentage.

In the third set, SUNY Poly put up a good fight to threaten the Medaille lead. The Mavs were resilient and made the most of their scoring opportunities with a .287 team hitting percentage in the third set.

Match leaders for the Mavs were Bogas with 15 kills (.393), six aces, and 14 digs, Adrianna Parsons (East St. Paul, MB, Miles Macdonell Collegiate) with eight kills (.278), five digs, and Kennedy with 27 assists. Chelsea Prescott (Coupeville, WA, Coupeville) also added five service aces in the match win.

Game 2
The Mavs faced a much tougher Buffalo State volleyball team in the afternoon. Despite losing Bogas due to injury in the first set, the Mavericks rallied with everything they had to keep the game close. Baylee Romano (North Collins, NY, North Collins), the primary Libero for the Mavs, moved to the outside hitting position where she made an immediate impact. The Mavs dropped the first set 21-25.

The second set was similar to the first where Medaille was able to hang tough but fell short near the end of the set. The team hitting percentage dropped to a .045 and the Mavs were missing their serving magic from the first match.

Strong attacking from Prescott, Parsons, and Romano kept the Mavs in reach of a third set win. The Mavs were able to stay within two points near the end of the third set but the high-powered offense of the Bengals were able to put the set away.

Match leaders for the Mavs were Romano with nine kills (.033), 14 digs, Parsons with nine kills (.129), nine digs, and Kennedy four kills (.200), 21 assists, and 11 digs.

Catch the Mavs at the Buffalo State Women's Volleyball Bengal Challenge where they will face Cazenovia College on Friday September 17th at 7:30 p.m.
