Mavs Win Second in a Row

Men's Soccer Takes Down Express, 4-1

AURORA, N.Y. – The Medaille College men's soccer team got a win on the road against the Wells College Express tonight. The Mavericks won 4-1.

The Mavs started the game off strong with their first shot by Eric Metade (Brampton, ON, St. Edmund Campion) just over the two minute mark of the game. This initial shot would keep the ball in Express territory until the first goal of the game. Charlie Stewart (Aberdeen, Scotland, Harlaw Academy) scored his third goal of the season off of a foul from the Express. Stewart was assisted by Metade. The Mavs kept the pressure up until just before the half. After a foul on Medaille, the Express took the ball all the way down the field, and scored their first of the game. They would end the half 1-1.

It was another quick start for the Mavs in the second half. They quickly brought the ball into Express territory for a corner kick. There was some tough defense coming from the Express. They managed to hold off the Mavs until 24 minutes into the second half. Ander Castillo (Bilbao, Spain, Mater Dei Catholic) scored the second of the night. Ben Marrable (Southend, England, Southend High School for Boys) gave him the ball for the assist.

The Mavs put two more quick goals on the board just minutes later. The third was scored by Castillo for his second of the night. Stewart was credited with the assist. The final goal was scored by Rodrigo Fernandez (Zaragoza, Spain), unassisted. This would bring them to the end of the game for a win, 4-1.

Game leaders for the Mavericks were Castillo with two goals, Stewart with one goal and one assist, Fernandez with one goal.

The Mavs will take a short break and then defend their home turf on Tuesday, September 14. They will play Fredonia State at 7:00 p.m.
