Women's Volleyball Falls to Wells College in Five-Set Thriller

Mavs Lose in Five, Drop to 3-8 on the Season

AURORA, N.Y. – The Medaille College women's volleyball team lost a tough match to Wells College in five sets of play. The Mavs took sets one and three (25-19, 25-22) but lost sets two, four, and five (20-25, 30-32, and 11-15).

In the first set, Medaille controlled the pace early but attacking errors kept The Express in the game. The momentum shifted often throughout the set and despite the mistakes, the Mavs tightened up their play to go on a six-point run to win the set 25-19.

The Express kicked off the second set with a six-point run of their own. Chase Luebeck (Troy, IL, Triad) strung together multiple kills to close the gap but the early lead proved too much for the Mavs as they dropped the second set 20-25.

The momentum stayed in favor of The Express as they went up eight points to start the third set. However, the Mavs kept their composure and the offense started chipping away at The Express lead. Halle Bogas (Cleveland, OH, Normandy) proved to be a difference maker with five kills in the third set to help Medaille take the set win 25-22.

The Mavs fought hard in the fourth set and were able to close the gap on multiple occasions. Chelsea Prescott (Coupeville, WA, Coupeville) scored a crucial kill late in the set to put the Mavs up 30-29, but The Express held on to win 32-30 and force a fifth set.

The battle continued in the fifth set but The Express put the pressure on late in the set to win 15-11.

Bogas led the Mavericks with 17 kills and nine digs followed by Luebeck with 11 kills and eight digs. Adrianna Parsons (East St. Paul, MB, Miles Macdonell Collegiate) was unstoppable on defense with 27 digs followed by Cierra Tripp (Diamond, OH, Southeast) with 19 digs. Haley Kennedy (Chestermere, AB, Chestermere) ran the Maverick offense with 38 assists and chipped in six kills and 17 digs. Prescott had a strong day with nine kills and 11 digs while Madison Kaczmarek (Akron, NY, Akron) added two solo blocks and six kills.
