BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Medaille College men's soccer team lost a close game against the Buffalo State Bengals tonight. The Mavericks lost 2-1.
It was a very physical start for the Mavericks tonight. In the first ten minutes of the game, the Mavs amassed four fouls to give the Bengals free kicks. The Bengals started shooting at 20 minutes into the game. They found a corner kick opportunity, and scored putting the Bengals up 1-0. The physical play continued for the Mavs after the first goal. It led them to their first shots of the game. They also found themselves in a corner kick opportunity, but could not find the back of the net. The Mavs went into halftime down 1-0.
Quickly after the second half started, the Mavs fired some shots.
Ander Castillo (Bilbao, Spain, Mater Dei Catholic) and
Rodrigo Fernandez (Zaragoza, Spain) were the two first quick shots of the half.
Solomon Konesky (Buffalo, NY, Amherst) tied up the score 28 minutes into the half. He scored unassisted. Both teams were starting to get even more physical and the cards were coming out. After a yellow card called on the Mavs, the Bengals took advantage and scored the final goal of the game. Konesky and
James Salvatore (Sutton, MA, Sutton) tried until the end to tie up the score, but could not get it past the Bengals. The Mavericks fell 2-1.
Game leaders for the Mavericks were Konesky with four shots on goal and one goal, Castillo with two shots on goal, and goalkeeper

The Mavericks will take some time off, and get back to it on Wednesday September 29. They will travel to Houghton College for a 7:00 p.m. start.
