Medaille Battles in Loss to La Roche

Mavs Lose to Redhawks in Four Sets

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Medaille women's volleyball team dropped their home AMCC match to La Roche University in four sets 24-26, 21-25, 27-25, 15-25. The Mavs move to 4-10 on the season and 1-2 in conference play.

The Mavs started strong in the first set with early kills from Chase Luebeck (Troy, IL, Triad), Chelsea Prescott (Coupeville, WA, Coupeville), and Halle Bogas (Cleveland, OH, Normandy) to take a 7-3 lead. Multiple ball handling errors from the Red Hawks and a kill from Baylee Romano (North Collins, NY, North Collins) helped extend the Mav lead to 11-5. The Redhawks' offense gathered some hitting momentum to tie the score up at 15. Both teams battled to the end until a kill and block from the Redhawks sealed a 26-24 win.

The Mavs continued their fight in the second set and took an early 4-0 lead from a Prescott ace and three La Roche hitting errors. The Redhawks were quick to bounce back with five straight points to lead 5-4. Bogas and Prescott were able to string together multiple kills but the Mavs fell just short losing 21-25.

In the third set, the Mavs jumped out to another 4-0 lead from early Redhawk errors and a Prescott kill. Again, the Redhawks responded quickly with a run of their own and took a 10-8 lead. Bogas continued to impress with six kills coming from the hands of Haley Kennedy (Chestermere, AB, Chestermere) to keep the Mavs ahead. With the score tied at 25, Luebeck served back-to-back aces to seal the victory for the Mavs, 27-25.

For the first time in the match, the Redhawks grabbed the first lead of the game in the fourth set. Bogas, Romano, Prescott, and Madison Kaczmarek (Akron, NY, Akron) added kills to break up the momentum coming from the Redhawk's offense. La Roche kept the pressure on and jumped to a 20-10 lead. Cierra Tripp (Diamond, OH, Southeast) added an ace followed by two Luebeck kills late in the set, but La Roche grabbed the win 25-15.

Bogas led the Maverick hitters with 13 kills followed by Luebeck with 10 and Prescott with 9. Prescott added three aces while Kaczmarek and Kennedy each grabbed two blocks. Kennedy played well for the Mavs with 34 assists and 12 digs. Tripp led the Mavs with 19 digs followed by Romano with 16 and Olivia Anderson (Mayville, NY, Chautauqua Lake) with 10.

The Mavs will be back at home on Tuesday, October 12 to face Alfred State College at 7:00 p.m.
