Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Luebeck Powers Medaille Past Hilbert in Conference Win

Mavs Defeat the Hawks in Three Sets (25-8, 25-13, 25-15).

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Medaille College women's volleyball team came out firing on all cylinders in their home match against Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Hilbert College. The Mavs won in three straight sets 25-8, 25-13, and 25-15 to move to 4-9 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.

Baylee Romano (North Collins, NY, North Collins) made a statement early with three straight aces to start the first set. The Mavs responded well to pressure from the Hawks with kills from Chase Luebeck (Troy, IL, Triad), Halle Bogas (Cleveland, OH, Normandy), and Chelsea Prescott (Coupeville, WA, Coupeville) to extend the lead. Bogas was able to string together an impressive four aces to get the Mavs ahead by eight points. Medaille continued to produce offensively to end the set with a 25-8 win.

In the second set, the Mavs continued to dominate with early kills from Luebeck, Prescott, and Olivia Anderson (Mayville, NY, Chautauqua Lake) to grab another early lead. The Hawks struggled to get any momentum going with multiple hitting and ball handling errors. Luebeck was on fire with six kills in the set to lift the Mavs over the Hawks 25-13.

The Hawks found their footing in the third set and began stringing together points offensively to put the Mavs on their heels. With the help of Bogas, the Mavs went on an early run to get up 8-3 but Hilbert was not out of the fight yet. The Hawks took advantage of multiple Medaille hitting errors to go on a seven-point run and take the lead 13-11. Romano put a stop to the Hawks with a kill and sparked a Maverick five-point run. Hilbert grabbed two more points before Prescott took to the service line. The Mavs won the next nine points including late kills from Romano, Luebeck, and Prescott for a 25-15 win.

Luebeck had a great day leading the Mavs with 11 kills and no errors for a .688 hitting percentage. Prescott led defensively with 11 digs followed by Bogas with eight digs, six kills, and a team-high four aces. Haley Kennedy (Chestermere, AB, Chestermere) put up 27 assists while Madison Kaczmarek (Akron, NY, Akron) added two kills and a solo block.

The Mavs will return to action at home on Saturday, October 9 against La Roche College at 1:00 p.m.
