BUFFALO N.Y. – The women's volleyball team fell short on senior night in a five set match against Mount Aloysius College. (20-25, 25-13, 25-13, 29-31, 11-15) The Mavs outscored the Mounties with 45 total kills compared to their 43 and 21 aces compared to the Mounties' 11. The Mavs move to 1-5 in conference play and 4-15 overall.
In the first set, the Mavs fought hard but ended up losing 20-25. The Mounties got the lead early on from serving runs and quick offensive play. With the score at 18-10, the Mavs started to get into their rhythm with 5 kills from
Halle Bogas (Cleveland, OH, Normandy) and 3 kills from
Chase Luebeck (Troy, IL, Triad) assisted by
Haley Kennedy (Chestermere, AB, Chestermere).
The Mavs didn't give up after set one and carried the energy from the end of the first set into the second. Bogas recorded 3 more kills and
Chelsea Prescott (Coupeville, WA, Coupeville) and Kennedy both had serving runs to help the Mavs move to 1-1 for the game, winning the set 25-13.
In the third set, the Mavs kept control of the game and started off with 3 kills from Luebeck to start with a 4-0 lead. Prescott added 5 kills of her own and Kennedy went on another serving run, winning again 25-13.
The fourth set was a tough battle back and forth between the Mavs and Mounties.
Madison Kaczmarek (Akron, NY, Akron) and Prescott teamed up for a big block against Mount Aloysius giving the Mavs the lead with 8-7. With kills made by
Baylee Romano (North Collins, NY, North Collins), Kennedy, Bogas, Kaczmarek, and Prescott the Mavs still fell short losing the set 29-31.
In the final set, the intensity from the fourth set continued. The Mavs almost had the win with the score tied up at 11-11. The Mounties fought back ending the set in 15-11.
Bogas led the Mavs with 13 kills overall, Luebeck with 12, and Prescott with 9. Romano recorded 8 aces for the game and
Olivia Anderson (Mayville, NY, Chautauqua Lake) had 15 digs and 4 assists. Prescott also picked up 19 digs for the night.
The Mavs will travel to Penn State Behrend on Tuesday, October 26, and play at 7 p.m.
