ERIE, P.A. – The Medaille College women's volleyball team traveled to the Junker Center on Tuesday night to face off against Penn State Behrend. The Mavs dropped all three sets to the Lions 18-25, 18-25, and 14-25. The Lions move to 7-0 in conference play as Medaille drops to 1-6.
The Mavs got off to a slow start in set one down 4-9 due to aggressive serving from the Lions. Junior
Halle Bogas (Cleveland, OH, Normandy) grabbed multiple kills in the middle of the set to gain some momentum.
Madison Kaczmarek (Akron, NY, Akron) assisted in the effort with three kills of her own. The Mavs trailed only 9-11 before the Lions took the next seven out of eight points to extend their lead. Hitting errors from Medaille helped Penn State Behrend close the set out on top, 25-18.
Senior
Baylee Romano (North Collins, NY, North Collins) continued her serving success with an early ace in the second set.
Chelsea Prescott (Coupeville, WA, Coupeville),
Haley Kennedy (Chestermere, AB, Chestermere), and Bogas chipped in a few kills to keep the game close. The Mavs continued to hang with one of the AMCC's best teams until late in the set where Medaille lost 18-25.
Romano, Bogas, and
Chase Luebeck (Troy, IL, Triad) continued to put points on the board in the third set. Kaczmarek and Prescott combined for a block before the Lions went on another scoring run. The Lions continued to serve tough and grabbed five aces in the third set. The Lions took set three 25-14.
Bogas led all hitters with 10 kills and three aces followed by Kaczmarek with four kills, good for a hitting percentage of .375. Kennedy grabbed 18 assists in the match while Romano led with 12 digs and two aces.
Olivia Anderson (Mayville, NY, Chautauqua Lake) chipped in nine digs and an ace.
The Mavs close out their regular season on October 30 at Pitt-Greensburg. The match is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
