BEAVER FALLS, P.A. – The Medaille College women's bowling team captured the 2022 AMCC Bowling Championship after defeating the top-seeded Saint Vincent College in the championship round.
After battling their way out of the loser's bracket on Saturday, the Mavericks jumped out to a strong start winning the traditional team format 1014-958. Paige Snook (Gaines, NY, Charles D'Amico) led the Mavs with a 224 followed by Taylor Strickland (Roslin, ON, Centre Hastings Secondary School) with a 210. Kendyll Jaskier (West Seneca, NY, West Seneca East) rolled a 202 in the opening win.
The Mavericks grabbed the first win (214-185) in game one of the five-game Baker series. The Mavs dropped game two before responding with a 177-160 game three win. Medaille took game four outscoring the Bearcats 210-149. The Mavs lost the fifth game (192-159) but still held the total pinfall advantage winning the series 917-875.
Since the Mavericks came from the elimination bracket and Saint Vincent was undefeated, the Mavs forced a best-of-seven series to decide the AMCC Champion.
Medaille continued their stellar performance winning the first two games, 222-141 and 197-192. The Bearcats battled back winning the third game 205-154. The Mavs won game four 177-125 to give them the 3-1 lead. With one more win needed, the Mavs got the job done taking game five, 208-163.
Jaskier led the Mavs with a 393 averaging 20.68. Strickland recorded a 362 for a 20.11 average and Sarah Radt (Orchard Park, NY, Orchard Park) finished with a 379 (19.94). Jaskier and Strickland were also named to the All-Tournament Team for their efforts on the weekend.
This win marks Medaille's fifth consecutive AMCC Bowling Championship, earning them an automatic bid to the NCAA National Tournament.
