WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – The Medaille College men's tennis team played back to back matches against Utica University, and AMCC opponent, Pen State Altoona. The Mavericks lost to Utica 8-1, and Penn State Altoona 6-3.
Match One
Ben Tubbs (Painted Post, NY, Corning-Painted Post) was the solo winner for the Mavs in singles. He won his match 6-1 and 6-4 in the fifth position.
Jason McCarthy (Cheektowaga, NY, Maryvale),
Pablo De Ramon Boceta (Treas-Cantos, Spain, Pinosierra),
Rodrigo Fernandez (Zaragoza, Spain),
Ander Castillo (Bilbao, Spain, Mater Dei Catholic), and
Akar Kyaw (Buffalo, NY, McKinley) all lost their singles matches. De Ramon, Kyaw, and Fernandez had close matches and stayed in it until the end.
Each Doubles' teams did not have much luck either. McCarthy and De Ramon had the closest score, finishing 5-8.
Match Two
It was a tough loss in conference play for the Mavs. They lost a few too many close matches. Tubbs was the lone winner in the singles matches. He won 6-1, 6-0 in the fourth position. McCarthy, Fernandez, Castillo, Juberias, and Kyaw took the losses in their singles matches.
De Ramon and Castillo got a doubles win in the second position, 8-5. Tubbs and Juberias also got a doubles win. They won in the third position 8-5. Their wins in doubles wouldn't do it, and Penn State Altoona took the conference win.
The Mavericks look ahead to Saturday, April 2. They will continue their conference play against Penn State Behrend. The Mavs will travel for a 1:00 p.m. start.
