PITTSBURGH, P.A. – The Medaille College men's basketball team finished out the regular season today against the La Roche Redhawks. The Mavericks lost 83-76.
The Mavericks scored the first points of the game.
Bryce Smith (College Station, TX, A&M; Consolidated) hit a three to give the Mavs and early lead.
Rodney Graves (Woodbridge, VA, Colgan) added to it with a made layup in the paint. The Redhawks put up their first points at 17:48 with a good jumper. They scored again off of a Maverick turnover, and the game was within one point.
Kendall McGill (Largo, MD, Largo) made a layup one minute later, but the Redhawks hit a three right after, and it was a new game. At 13:21 the Redhawks gained a nine-point lead.
Jaqwan Washington (Bryan, TX, Bryan) broke that streak with a shot from behind the arc to lessen their lead. At 9:37, the Mavs scored two in a row.
Travis Sanders (Cleveland, OH, Euclid) made a layup, and
Dante Moultrie (Buffalo, NY, North Tonawanda) hit a three. The Mavs were now within three. At 2:56 Graves scored from behind the arc to tie it up again. Washington made two free-throws to put them in the lead again. The Redhawks ended the half with a jumper that put the Redhawks back in the lead, 37-34.
The second half started the same way the first half ended, with two points from the Redhawks. Smith started the scoring again for the Mavericks at 19:13. The Redhawks kept their lead until 16:04 when
Daunte Wilcott (Erie, PA, Mercyhurst Prep) made a layup on a fastbreak. One minute later, the Redhawks tied it back up with a free-throw. They started to run with the lead from there. At 12:34, they were leading by 11 points. At 6:04 Graves put the Mavs within two, but it would not be enough. The Redhawks took the win 83-76.
Game leaders for the Mavericks were Graves with 22 points going 8-17 with three threes, four rebounds, and one steal, McGill with 13 points going 4-9 with one three, four rebounds, two assists, and one steal, and
Jorarei Bile (Oxon Hill, MD, Oxon Hill) with 11 points going 5-9 with five rebounds, three assists, and one steal.
The Mavericks have won the fourth seed in the AMCC tournament. They will host the first round on Tuesday, February 22. Pitt-Greensburg will travel to Medaille for a 7:00 p.m. start.
