BUFFALO N.Y. – The Medaille men's basketball team lost to Penn St. Behrend 65-78. The Mavs go to 8-10 on the season and 5-5 in conference play.
Jorarei Bile (Oxon Hill, MD, Oxon Hill) scored an early layup to start the game off for the Mavs. Jaqwan Washington (Bryan, TX, Bryan) hit a jump shot to trail the Lions 5-9. Daunte Wilcott (Erie, PA, Mercyhurst Prep) hit a three-pointer followed by a steal and layup to push the score to 12-16. Washington played aggressively getting himself a steal and converting it into two points to tie up the score at 16-16 with 9:12 left in the first half. Both teams fought hard in the paint for a good position. Dante Moultrie (Buffalo, NY, North Tonawanda) hit a huge three for Medaille to trail the Lions 22-23. The Mavs and Lions played physical with one another. The Mavs fouling to put the Lions on the free-throw line let them slowly creep ahead in the last five minutes of play. Behrend leads 36-30 to go into the second half.
An early steal followed by a three-point play from Bile gets the second half rolling. The Lions start slowly slipping away from the Mavs. Washington hit another three to fall behind 36-43. Kendall McGill (Largo, MD, Largo) hit two jumpers to attempt to stay in reach of Behrend. Travis Sanders (Cleveland, OH, Euclid) grabbed a steal to transfer over into a three-point play to trail 44-48. The Mavs held on with everything they had to catch up with the Lions. With around two minutes left in the game, the Lions hit a three pulled away with the lead, up by 12. The Lions beat the Mavs with a final score of 65-78.
Washington put up 14 points and Rodney Graves (Woodbridge, VA, Colgan) had 11. Sanders was able to grab eight rebounds and pick up three steals. McGill and Wilcott were both able to add in nine points each of their own.
The Mavs play next at Mount Aloysius College on Saturday, February 5 at 4:00 p.m.
