Clare recorded 25 saves in the loss
OSWEGO, N.Y. — The Medaille field hockey team opened its inaugural season with a road matchup at Oswego State on Friday. The Lakers defeated the Mavericks 7-0 to move to 2-0 overall, while the Mavs fell to 0-1.
Medaille trailed early as the Lakers led 3-0 after the first quarter.
Morgan Kramer (Sanborn, NY, Starpoint) was the only Maverick to register a shot on goal throughout the game, but was not able to find the back of the net.
Oswego scored twice more in the first half and added two more goals in the second half to secure the 7-0 victory.
Kristyn Clare (Rochester, NY, East Irondequoit) shined in goal for the Mavs with 25 saves in 60 minutes of play, putting up a strong effort while under heavy pressure from a dominant Lakers offense. In addition, the freshman goalie made a stellar save on a penalty stroke early in the fourth quarter.
The Mavs look to bounce back Saturday afternoon in a matchup against Russell Sage at Afrim's Sports Park.
