UTICA, N.Y. — The Medaille women's tennis team lost to the Utica College Pioneers on Friday by a score of 3-6. It was a tough loss for the Mavs who suffered close losses on the day. Two tie-break match losses ultimately cost the Mavericks the victory. The Mavs dropped to 1-3 overall on the season.
Medaille jumped out to a hot start after winning two of the three doubles matches, good for two points. The pairing of
Hallie Dworzanski (N. Tonawanda, NY, Niagara-Wheatfield) and
Ali Richardson (Depew, NY, Maryvale) took the second doubles by a score of 8-1, while the duo of
Arianna Lysiak (Cheektowaga, NY, Maryvale) and
Zea Dutton (Niagara Falls, NY, Niagara Falls) won the third doubles 8-7 and 7-4.
The Mavericks came up short in the singles matches, losing five of six. Freshman stand-out
Emily Jablonski (Alden, NY, Alden) won her singles set 6-1, 6-0 to claim Medaille's only point in singles play. Lysiak played a hard-fought singles match, going 6-0, 6-7, 5-10.
The Mavs were back at it again this afternoon as they hosted Penn State Altoona.
