ERIE, P.A. – The Medaille College women's basketball team returned to action on Saturday for their Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) matchup against the Penn State Behrend Lions. The Mavs lost the road game 89-51 and fall to 4-5 on the season. The Lions move to 9-1 and remain undefeated in conference play.
Sophomore guard
Shyanne Trinh (Dorchester, MA, Stoughton) took charge early with a defensive rebound and a good jumper in the paint to get the Mavs on the board.
Erin Hardick (Buffalo, NY, Sacred Heart),
Xaneya Thomas (Binghamton, NY, Binghamton), and
Morgan Kennedy (Philadelphia, PA, West Catholic Prep) kept the offense rolling in the first quarter as the Lions clung to a three-point lead.
The Lions caught fire in the second quarter making the most of their scoring opportunities and forced 11 Maverick turnovers. Medaille scored nine points in the quarter off the hands of Hardick and Kennedy. The Lions scored 27 points in the quarter and held a 45-24 lead going into halftime.
Despite a strong effort from
Desmonique Veal (Buffalo, NY, City Honors) and Thomas, the Lions continued to keep up the pressure. Medaille did a much better job securing the ball but could not match the offense of the Lions. The Mavs were outscored 27-44 in the second half which sealed an 89-51 victory for Penn State Behrend.
Medaille went 18-64 from the field, 3-11 beyond the arc, and 12-18 from the free throw line.
Game leaders for the Mavericks were Trinh with 14 points going 5-13 with two rebounds, two assists, and one block, Hardick with 13 points going 4-14 with six rebounds, and Kennedy with a double-double, scoring 11 points with 11 rebounds.
