Trinh Led All Mavericks With 25 Points

AURORA, N.Y. – The Medaille College women's basketball team put together one of the most dominant team performances of the season in their away match at Wells College. The Mavs move to 3-4 on the season with their 80-30 win over the Express Wednesday night.

Sophomore guard Shyanne Trinh (Dorchester, MA, Stoughton) opened the scoring for the Mavs with a made layup less than one minute into the quarter. Sophomore Desmonique Veal (Buffalo, NY, City Honors) minimized the scoring opportunities for the Express with multiple defensive rebounds. Veal and Trinh continued to score with multiple layups each. Their combined effort helped the Mavs reach a 12-0 lead. Treanna Blenman (Brooklyn, NY, Greece Odyssey) checked into the game and scored an early jumper followed by Xaneya Thomas (Binghamton, NY, Binghamton) and Trinh. Medaille finished the first quarter up 25-4.

Despite putting up 25 points in the first quarter, the Mavs wasted no time adding to their lead. Trinh hit a three-pointer while Morgan Kennedy (Philadelphia, PA, West Catholic Prep) made both of her free throws. Thomas had three steals in the span of a minute which turned into positive points for the Mavs. Trinh, Ariea Garrett (Cleveland, OH, Beaumont), and Erin Hardick (Buffalo, NY, Sacred Heart) capitalized on the many turnovers which put the Mavs up 52-14 at halftime.

Thomas, Hardick, Veal, and Kennedy continued to make plays and keep the Express completely out of the game. Janell Steed (Buffalo, NY, Sacred Heart Academy) and Taliyah Mann (Houston, TX, South Houston) added points in the second half as the Mavs cruised to a complete team win. At the final buzzer, the Medaille Mavericks walked away with an 80-30 win.

As a team, the Mavs went 31-80 from the field with a 38.8 shooting percentage, and 12-18 at the free throw line. Medaille won the rebound battle 52-33 and scored 40 points off turnovers compared to Wells with seven.

Game leaders for the Mavericks were Trinh with 25 points going 10-18 with five rebounds and five steals, Veal with 12 points going 5-10, and Garrett with 11 points and 15 rebounds.
