Blue Streak Second Half Run Too Much for Mavericks

Men's Basketball Drops First Game of Cole's Classic To John Carroll

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Medaille College men's basketball team dropped their first game of the Buffalo State Cole's Classic tournament tonight to the John Carroll Blue Streaks. The Mavericks lost 92-76.

The Mavs started off the scoring with a made three-pointer from Rodney Graves (Woodbridge, VA, Colgan) off of a fast-break. They kept their lead until just under 11 minutes left in the half. They gave up a jump-shot in the paint that put the Blue Streaks ahead by one point. They started to gain a small lead, but the Mavs were right behind them. Just over eight minutes left, Tyler Sealy (London, England, DME Academy) sunk a three-pointer to put the Mavericks back on top. With 5:37 left, the Blue Streaks found another lead and kept it to the half. The Mavs went into halftime down 38-42.

It was a slow start to begin the second half. The Blue Streaks extended their lead to nine points before Daunte Wilcott (Erie, PA, Mercyhurst Prep) made the first basket of the half for the Mavs. They were just trying to catch back up. The Blue Streaks made two foul shots with 13:14 left, and that is where they started to really extend their lead. The Mavericks could not get within ten, and fell to a 76-92 loss.

The Mavericks went 30-65 in the field, making only 11 out of 24 free throws. Giving them a shooting percentage of 46.2% and a 45.8 free throw percentage.

Game leaders for the Mavs were Travis Sanders (Cleveland, OH, Euclid) with 14 points going 7-12 with 11 rebounds, Graves with 12 points going 3-8 with eight rebounds and five assists, and Nick Carmichael (Ontario, NY, Wayne) with eight points going 4-8 with seven rebounds.

The Mavericks will continue on in the tournament tomorrow, November 20 against Ohio Northern University. Tip-off will be at 2:00 p.m.
