Women's Basketball Rolls Past Keuka

Mavs Beat the Wolves 70-58 at the Brockport Tip-Off Tournament

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Medaille College women's basketball team returned to action for day two of the Brockport Tip-Off Tournament. The Mavs secured their first win of the season against the Keuka College Wolves, 70-58. Medaille moves to 1-2 on the season as Keuka falls to 0-3.

The Mavs struck first off a layup from freshman Ariea Garrett (Cleveland, OH, Beaumont) to set the tone early. The Wolves responded and tied the score at six until sophomore guard Shyanne Trinh (Dorchester, MA, Stoughton), and senior forward Morgan Kennedy (Philadelphia, PA, West Catholic Prep), took over the first quarter offensively. Kennedy and Trinh combined for 14 of the Mavs' 16 points in the quarter.

The high-powered offense of Medaille continued to roll into the second quarter where they finished with 25 points scored. Junior point-guard Erin Hardick (Buffalo, NY, Sacred Heart) continued to be an assist machine where she finished the second half with eight assists. The Mavs shot 11-22 from the field in the second quarter as they led 41-30 going into the third quarter.

Garrett, Kennedy, and Trinh continued to impress in the second half. The Wolves managed to outscore the Mavs 14-13 in the third quarter, but Medaille refused to let up. Sophomore Xaneya Thomas (Binghamton, NY, Binghamton) had a strong fourth quarter shooting 3-5 from the field as Trinh chipped in six points of her own. Medaille finished the second half with 29 points scored compared to Keuka's 28, which sealed a Maverick win.

The Mavs went 29-77 from the field and made 8-12 free throws.

Trinh led with 21 points scored while grabbing five steals and two assists. Kennedy was very efficient scoring 15 points going 6-10 from the field and 3-4 from the free throw line. Kennedy also grabbed 10 rebounds which trailed only Thomas with 11 rebounds. Hardick finished the day with 11 assists, eight points, and four steals while Garrett put up nine points in the victory.

The Mavericks will head to SUNY Geneseo on Thursday, November 18 for their next contest. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
