Field Hockey Downed By Utica In Home Opener

Clare Makes 38 Saves in Loss

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Medaille College field hockey team returned to the field Saturday after a brief break in its schedule. The Mavericks faced a gritty Utica Pioneers team and despite playing shorthanded, they persevered in the face of adversity in a 10-0 loss. Medaille moved to 0-3 on the season while the Pioneers won their third in a row, improving to 6-4 on the year.

Utica struck first 3:40 into the game and added two more goals to lead 3-0 after the first quarter. The Pioneers would not let up, finding the back of the cage three more times to end the half with a 6-0 advantage.

The Pioneers put four more goals on the scoreboard in the final two quarters to complete the game.

Medaille goalie Kristyn Clare (Rochester, NY, East Irondequoit) had a busy afternoon, but was very impressive in net, recording 38 saves for the Mavericks.

The Mavs will look for their first win on Tuesday, October 5 as they take on Allegheny College at 5 p.m. on the road.
