Mavs Go 2-3 in Day One of MOTIV Penguin Classic

Women's Bowling Battles in Season Debut

STRUTHERS, O.H. – The Medaille College bowling team opened their season on Friday at the MOTIV Penguin Classic held at the Holiday Bowl in Struthers, Ohio. The Mavs were highly competitive in all five matches finishing 2-3 in the first day of the tournament.

After last season's NCAA tournament run featuring a nationally ranked Medaille College bowling team, the Mavs were quick to return to their winning ways. Based on a Baker scoring system, the Mavericks started strong beating Walsh University 890-709 for their first win of the day.

In the second match, the Mavs edged out a close win over Saint Francis University 887-875 before losing 808-972 against the undefeated Lewis University.

The fourth match of the day saw the Mavericks reach their highest score of the tournament at 956, but Valparaiso University also strung together their best match of the day to beat Medaille with a 989.

The Mavs fell short in the final match of day one in the MOTIV Penguin Classic. Medaille lost to Duquesne University 890-933.

Sarah Radt (Orchard Park, NY, Orchard Park) led the way for the Mavs with a total pin count of 914 averaging 18.65. Brianna Thurston (Sun Prairie, WI, Sun Prairie) followed closely behind with a 912 and 18.61 average. Newcomer Taylor Strickland (Roslin, ON, Centre Hastings Secondary School) had a strong first day averaging 18.02 with 883 total pins.

Medaille currently sits in eighth place out of ten based on total Baker score with a 4,431. The Mavs are back in action today for day two of the tournament.
