Game 1
The Mavs played their best volleyball in the first set against Nazareth.
Chelsea Prescott (Coupeville, WA, Coupeville) and
Halle Bogas (Cleveland, OH, Normandy) both added crucial kills to break up the momentum coming from the Golden Flyers. The Mavs continued to battle only down 20-22 before Nazareth gabbed the next three points to win 25-20.
The second set featured a similar story to the first until the middle of the set. The Mavericks were winning 11-9 before they gave up eight straight points to the Golden Flyers. The aggressive serving and hitting from Nazareth elevated them over the Mavericks 25-16.
Nazareth continued their performance into the third set going up 17-6.
Haley Kennedy (Chestermere, AB, Chestermere) and Prescott added late kills to try and reel the Golden Flyers back in. The Mavs fell short losing 15-25.
Prescott led the Mavs with seven kills and two aces followed by Bogas with six kills and one ace. Kennedy grabbed 17 assists and
Olivia Anderson (Mayville, NY, Chautauqua Lake) led the defense with 13 digs. Bogas and
Baylee Romano (North Collins, NY, North Collins) both added 10 digs in the loss.
Game 2
In the first set, the Mavericks grabbed an early lead from kills by Bogas, Prescott, and attack errors from the Tigers. With the Mavs leading 12-9, the RIT offense responded with seven straight points. Bogas added another kill but the Tigers found their rhythm taking the win, 25-16.
In the second set, RIT jumped out to a 10-1 lead. Prescott, Kennedy, and
Madison Kaczmarek (Akron, NY, Akron) chipped in some offensive points but could not stop the Tigers. RIT took the second set 25-12.
