Mavs Get the Sweep Over Hilbert on Senior Day

Softball Grabs Two More AMCC Wins

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Medaille College softball team got a sweep in their Senior Day against AMCC opponents, the Hilbert Hawks. The Mavericks won game one 8-1 and game two 8-0, in five innings.

Game One

The Mavs scored their first runs in the second inning. Sarah Hapeman (Williamsville, NY, St. Mary's Lancaster) got things started with a walk on one out. Audra Marley (Watervliet, NY, Shaker) followed with a walk behind her. Hapeman advanced on a wild pitch, and Marley stole second a play later. With two outs, Gabrielle Presutti (Williamsville, NY, Williamsville South) hit a bomb over the right fielder's head for a triple. Hapeman and Marley scored putting the Mavs up 2-0.

The Hawks answered with a run in the third inning. Their lead-off batter walked, then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. A double to left center scored her. They cut the lead in half 1-2.

In the fourth inning, the Mavs put some more runs on the board. Hapeman started things off again with her second walk of the day. She stole second, then advanced to third on a ground out. April Chambers (Lockport, NY, Starpoint - Niagara CCC) hit a grounder to the shortstop who tried to throw Hapeman out going home, but she was too quick and scored. With Chambers on first, Presutti walked to put runners on first and second. Kylie Lyons (Olean, NY, Olean) doubled to right center and scored both Chambers and Presutti. Lyons made her way to third on the throw to try and get Presutti out at home. Shay Sommer (Grand Island, NY, Grand Island) beat out a throw from the shortstop, and Lyons made her way home. The Mavs jumped way ahead, 6-1.

They finished things off in the sixth inning. Presutti led off with a walk. After two outs in a row, Camryn Adimey (Lakeview, NY, Frontier) walked, moving Presutti to second. Sommer doubled to centerfield, scoring Presutti. The centerfielder made a throwing error trying to get Sommer at second, and Adimey made her way home. The Mavs held things down in the top of the seventh inning, and they won game one 8-1.

Game leaders for the Mavericks were Presutti going 1-2 with one triple, two RBI's, and two runs scored, Lyons going 2-4 with one double, two RBI's, and one run scored, and Sommer going 3-4 with one double and two RBI's. Hapeman grabbed the win in the circle allowing only four hits with four strikeouts.

Game Two

In game two, the action started in the bottom of the first inning. Lyons singled to start things off. With two outs, Adimey singled through the left side and advanced Lyons to second. Sommer singled to center and scored Lyons. The Mavs had an early lead, 1-0.

They added another in the second inning. Sidney Cooper (Elmira, NY, Thomas Edison) led off the inning getting hit by a pitch. Marley walked, and then Chambers singled through the right side. With the bases loaded, Presutti was hit by a pitch, bringing Cooper home from third. The Mavs extended their lead to 2-0.

They had a big final inning in the bottom of the fourth. Marley hit a lead-off single to left center. Chambers walked, and Presutti singled through the left side to score Marley, and advance Chambers to second. After a long contested foul ball in left, Lyons hit a single to center to score Chambers. Adimey walked, which loaded the bases. Sommer beat out a ball to the third baseman, bringing Presutti home. Fenstermaker forced an error on the shortstop, which brought both Lyons and Adimey home. Cooper grounded out to the shortstop, scoring Sommer from third. That would do it, and the Mavs swept 8-0 in five innings.

Game leaders for the Mavericks were Sommer going 2-3 with one RBI and two runs scored, Lyons going 2-3 with one RBI and two runs scored, and Presutti going 1-2 with two RBI's and one run scored. Kaitlyn Alguire (Forestville, NY, Forestville) pitched a one-hitter for the win with one strikeout.
