BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Medaille College men's tennis team took on the Pitt-Bradford Panthers today in two matches. The first match was a conference win 9-0 and the second match was a non-conference win 5-0.
Match One
After a long stretch since their last match, the Mavericks were back at home.
Jason McCarthy (Cheektowaga, NY, Maryvale),
Akar Kyaw (Buffalo, NY, McKinley), and
Ben Tubbs (Painted Post, NY, Corning-Painted Post) led the way for the Mavs. McCarthy in the first singles spot won 6-0, 6-0, then paired with Kyaw in doubles to win 8-0. Kyaw also had a 6-0, 6-0 win in his second singles position. Tubbs in the third singles position added to the streak going 6-0, 6-0.
Gay Dho Htoo (Rochester, NY, World of Inquiry School #58) won his fourth position singles match 6-0, 6-0.
Zach Barlow (Depew, NY, Depew) and
Josh Wolski (Amherst, NY, Amherst) had more of a battle in their fifth and sixth singles position matches. Barlow won 6-3, 6-1, and Wolski won 6-2, 6-1.
Tubbs and Barlow teamed up for the second position doubles winning 8-0, and Htoo and Wolski finished it out winning 8-0 in the third position doubles. This put them in good standing in conference play.
Match Two
The second match of the day was considered non-conference play. All six Mavs stayed in their same positions in both singles and doubles.
McCarthy, Kyaw, Tubbs, and Wolski each played in one set in their singles matches. McCarthy won 6-0, Kyaw won 6-0, Tubbs won 6-0, and Wolski won 4-1. Htoo and Barlow both won 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles, McCarthy Kyaw, Tubbs Barlow, and Htoo Wolski each took their matches in 8-0 wins.
The Mavs will play next on Thursday, March 24. They will travel to Nazareth College for a 4:00 p.m. start.
