Mavericks Dominate Offensively Over Mounties

Women's Basketball Gets Redemption Against Mount Aloysius

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Medaille College women's basketball team got their redemption over the Mount Aloysius Mounties in a win this afternoon. The Mavericks won a dominant game 77-48.

The Mavs were off to a quick start after the tip. Xaneya Thomas (Binghamton, NY, Binghamton), Erin Hardick (Buffalo, NY, Sacred Heart) and Morgan Kennedy (Philadelphia, PA, West Catholic Prep) put up two points each giving the Mavs a 6-0 lead before the Mounties began to score. Their first two scores were threes back-to-back, so it was back to an even score. Desmonique Veal (Buffalo, NY, City Honors) put them back in the lead with two jumpers in the paint. It wasn't until a free throw from Thomas at 5:17, that the Mavs really started to run away with the lead. Hardick, Veal, Thomas, and Shyanne Trinh (Dorchester, MA, Stoughton) added to the score to put them ahead 20-10. Kennedy made one more jumper to finish the quarter 22-13.

In the second quarter the Mavs really picked up their defense. They held the Mounties to only nine points. Veal started the scoring draining one from behind the arc. The Mounties scored their first of the half with five minutes left, but Veal came right back with a good jumper. Kennedy added to their lead with her own three, while Trinh joined the part 30 seconds later. The defense stayed strong while offensively the Mavericks scored 19 more points. They went into halftime leading 41-22.

The third quarter was more of the same, with the Mavericks only allowing another nine points. It would be their lowest scoring quarter of the game, but they still kept their feet on the gas. Ariea Garrett (Cleveland, OH, Beaumont) was the one to start it off for the Mavs this time. She made a layup off of her own rebound. A couple more minutes came off the clock until Caiden Crego (Newark, NY, Lyons) put two more on the board. With just under one minute left, Hardick made a layup to put the Mavs ahead by 26 points. They ended the third leading 55-31.

In the final quarter of the game, the Mavs turned on their offense even more. They outscored the Mounties 22-17 in this quarter. Veal scored the first four points to get them started. Crego sank a jumper to put them ahead by 30 points at 7:21. At 1:48 Treanna Blenman (Brooklyn, NY, Greece Odyssey) gave the Mavs their biggest lead of the afternoon with a three to put them ahead by 36 points. It was the end. The Mavericks took this one in an offensively dominant fashion, 77-48.

Game leaders for the Mavericks were Veal with 19 points going 9-13 with five rebounds, four assists, and two steals, Trinh with 18 points going 6-12 scoring five threes, with four rebounds, one assist, and two steals, and Hardick with 10 points going 5-10 with seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
