Mavs End Season at La Roche

Women's Basketball Drops Final Game to Redhawks

PITTSBURGH, P.A. – The Medaille College women's basketball team played their final conference game of the season against the La Roche Redhawks today. The Mavericks lost 55-66.

Shyanne Trinh (Dorchester, MA, Stoughton) started it off for the Mavericks hitting a three just over one minute into the game. It gave the Mavs a quick lead 3-2. The Redhawks four more in a row to jump to a ten-point lead. At 2:58 Erin Hardick (Buffalo, NY, Sacred Heart) broke that streak with a layup in the paint. Ariea Garrett (Cleveland, OH, Beaumont) added another point for the Mavs with a made free-throw. It was a tough start with the first quarter ending 21-6 in favor of the Redhawks.

Hardick started the second quarter this time, with another layup in the paint. Desmonique Veal (Buffalo, NY, City Honors) scored soon after with a good jumper. The scoring went back and forth between both teams until 4:28. Hardick started a streak making two free-throws. In the Mavs' next possession, Taliyah Mann (Houston, TX, South Houston) made a jumper in the paint. Hardick made another layup and two more free-throws. They strung together a nice streak to finish out the half. The Mavs went into halftime trailing 22-33.

The third quarter was started with a quick shooting foul from the Mavericks. The Redhawks made both free-throws. Xaneya Thomas (Binghamton, NY, Binghamton) answered that back with a good layup. The teams continued their back and forth scoring. There was a long period between 6:58 and 3:35 where neither team made a basket. La Roche broke that streak with some more free-throws. The third quarter would end with the Redhawks still leading, 48-32.

The fourth quarter was the best offensive quarter for the Mavericks. They scored 23 points. Veal started it off with a layup in the paint. They started to get more stops on defense. Garrett made a jumper and a layup within 30 seconds of each other. Then Caiden Crego (Newark, NY, Lyons) had a good layup and was fouled. She made her and-one shot. Garrett came right back with another layup. The Mavs scored the final basket of the game with 23 seconds left. Garrett made a layup in the paint. After an impressive quarter from the Mavericks, La Roche was still too far ahead, and took the game. The final score was 66-55.

Game leaders for the Mavericks were Hardick with 17 points going 6-15 with six rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Garrett with 11 points going 5-7 with five rebounds and one steal, and Veal with nine points going 4-13 with five rebounds, one assist, and two steals.

This would wrap up both the regular season, and the Mavericks' season as a whole. Due to tie-breakers, the Mavs will not head into the AMCC playoff tournament. The Mavs will say goodbye to their only senior Morgan Kennedy (Philadelphia, PA, West Catholic Prep).
