GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. — On Saturday, the men's and women's cross country teams participated in their first meet of the season at the Daniel Walker Invitational. The meet, hosted by Buffalo State College, was held at Beaver Island State Park.
The Medaille women's team was represented by
Erin Hardick (Amherst, NY, Sacred Heart Academy) and
Katherine Bobowicz (Clarence, NY, Sacred Heart Academy) who competed against athletes from Buffalo State, Ursuline (Ohio), D'Youville, Alfred State, and Hilbert. Hardick and Bobowicz completed the 5k seconds apart, with Hardick finishing in 24:00 and Bobowicz in 24:05. The runners placed 14
th and 15
th, respectively. Ursuline (Ohio) took first in the women's team competition, while Medaille was unable to post a team score with two runners.
In the men's race, Medaille was represented by
Nicholas Cicero (Williamsville, NY, Williamsville South),
Joshua Wolski (Amherst, NY, Amherst), and
Ga'Vintay McGhee (Lumberton, NC, Leesville Road). The men faced competitors from Alfred State, Buffalo State, D'Youville, Hilbert, and Villa Maria. Cicero was the first Maverick to finish the race and placed 11
th, posting a time of 18:57. Wolski finished 16
th (19:40) and McGhee finished 19
th (21:23) out of 35 runners. Buffalo State took the men's team title, while Medaille did not post a team score with three runners.
Both teams will be off this week to prepare for the Alfred State Invitational on September 18 at 10:00 a.m.
