Men's Lacrosse Derails Express

Spengler leads Mavs with six points

BUFFALO, NY – The Medaille men's lacrosse team closed out their regular season with a victory against Wells College on Saturday. The Mavericks went up early in the first quarter and did not look back, closing out the 13-11 win.

The Mavs would go on to score six straight goals in the first with three of them coming from Max Surdyk (Tonawanda, NY, Kenmore West).

Going into the second, the Mavs were sitting comfortably until the Express opened the second frame with two goals, slimming the Maverick lead to 6-3.

Matt Kennedy (Hamburg, NY, Frontier) scored to halt the Express from furthering their goal streak and would strike again with 20 seconds left to close out the half. Medaille would enter the half with a 10-5 lead.

The Express again would open up the third with back-to-back tallies. The Mavs refused to be shutout in the third with Jaren Dixon (Lewiston, NY, Niagara-Wheatfield) finding the back of the net with two second on the clock, taking the Mavs to the final frame ahead 12-7.

With the Mavs up by five, Tim Spengler (Amherst, NY, Sweet Home) opened the scoring in the fourth off a nice find by Kennedy. However, the Express made a push for the Maverick lead. Wells would pot four goals to get within one with just under three minutes remaining.

With one and a half to play, Dixon got himself around some defenders and made a pass through a tight window to find Nathan Walker (West Seneca, NY, West Seneca East) who buried it to seal the win.

Spengler led the Mavs in points with six having three goals and three assists. He would also finish second on the Mavs in groundballs with eight. Dixon collected two goals and dished out three assists as well. Sudryk would finish his day potting three along with Kennedy with both having an assist as well.

Senior David Cloy (Wilson, NY, Wilson) led the Mavs defensively with two caused turnovers and nine groundballs. Blaire Prest (Medina, NY, Medina) got the win in goal, making 13 saves in the process.

The Mavs now await the final seeding for the NEAC to determine if they will take part in the conference tournament.
