Men's Volleyball Falls in AMCC Opener

Pauline leads Mavs with (12) kills

BUFFALO, NY – The Medaille men's volleyball team took the loss in their conference opener on Saturday against Hiram College. Although the Mavericks took the first set (25-23), they would fall by a score of (3-1).

The opening frame saw a closely contested ball-game with the largest lead being by three points when the score was (8-5) in favor of the Mavs. With the Terriers on the winning side of a (22-21) score, Medaille would get consecutive points via kills from Malachi Jackson (Cheektowaga, NY, Cheektowaga) and Kevin Cashdollar (Clarence, NY, Clarence HS). However, Hiram would tie things at (23) to make the final moments of the set a nail-biter. Jackson would earn the Mavs another point with another big swing before finishing the set on an ace (25-23).

The second set saw much of the same with both teams exchanging blows. The Mavs would find themselves down (19-17) before the Terriers rattled off six straight points to close the door on the second frame.

In the third set with the Mavs trailing (9-8), Medaille would win three-straight rallies to up the Terriers (11-9). Hiram responded with five-unanswered to switch the momentum and close out the third set with eight more unanswered points to win the third set (25-16).

The fourth and final set was controlled by the Terriers with the Mavs coming up short after stringing together a couple points late, ultimately falling to Hiram (25-16)

Chris Pauline Jr. (North Tonawanda, NY, North Tonawanda) led the Mavs in kills with (12) and Jackson would total eight. Pauline would also add in two service aces with Jackson finishing with five digs. Jake Siwy (West Seneca, NY, West Seneca West) would end the day with (19) assists.

The Mavs are off until Saturday, March 20th where they will travel to Latrobe, PA to take on Saint Vincent College in another AMCC tilt.
