Box Score AURORA, N.Y. — The Medaille College field hockey team traveled to Wells College on Sunday for a matchup with the Express. Despite putting on their best performance of the year, the Mavericks fell short just short, losing the game 3-2 in overtime.

Medaille got off to a quick start with a shot on goal from freshman Morgan Kramer (Sanborn, NY, Starpoint) just 22 seconds into the game. Wells put the pressure on from there, firing eight shots toward Medaille goalie Kristyn Clare (Rochester, NY, East Irondequoit). Clare recorded five big saves before the Express opened up the scoring late in the first quarter, giving Wells a 1-0 lead.

The Mavericks found themselves on the scoresheet nine minutes into the second quarter. Kramer scored her first goal of the season, unassisted, to tie the score up at 1-1.

The third quarter featured six Medaille penalty corners, but the Mavs could not find the back of the net. It wasn't until the fourth quarter that the Mavericks would tally another goal. Kylie Tolsma (Buffalo, NY, Sweet Home) was awarded a penalty stroke and capitalized on the opportunity to put the Mavs up 2-1. The Express wouldn't back down without a fight, tying the game at 2-2 with just 48 seconds left in regulation.

Five minutes into the overtime period, Wells put the game away to earn the 3-2 victory.

Medaille finished the day with 13 shots on goal, which is a season-high for the Mavericks. Clare recorded 12 saves on 15 shots in the OT loss.

The Mavs are back at it again Monday against Keuka College.
