Laura Edholm will enter her 25th year in the Medaille College Athletic Department this Fall, having taken on numerous roles during her time as a Maverick. Currently Edholm serves as the Senior Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator, as well as entering her first season as the Head Coach of the Men's Golf team.
As an administrator Edholm has held almost every role, and is currently in charge of balancing the athletic department budgets while also spearheading the departments fundraising efforts. She also served as the Faculty Advisor for Medaille SAAC, the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
Most recently, Edholm served as Head Coach of the Women's Bowling team. On the lanes the Mavericks saw unprecedented success with Edholm in charge. She has guided Medaille to four AMCC Regular Season Championship in 2015, 2019, 2020 and 2021 and the past four seasons has directed the Mavs to back-to-back-to-back AMCC Tournament Championships, including a win on their home lanes in 2018.
2018-19 was a historic season for the Mavericks on the lanes, when after winning their third straight AMCC Tournament Championship they became just the third Division III program to ever qualify for the NCAA Championships. After winning 60 matches overall in 2018-19, Medaille took the AMCC's first ever automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and faced off against Arkansas State in the NCAA Opening Round.
For her efforts she has been named the AMCC Women’s Bowling Coach of the Year for the third straight season, helping Carla Hansen and Morgan Walsh earn AMCC All-Conference honors a year after guiding Hansen and Liz Minnard to AMCC Co-Newcomer of the Year honors in 2018.
Edholm would earn AMCC Coach of the year honors in 2020 once again along with four All-Conference selections and an AMCC Newcomer of the Year.
After the year was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Mavs were unable to compete for and AMCC Title, but were ranked 11th in the NTCA DII-DII Coaches Poll and and claimed the highest winning percentage among DIII schools.
In 2021, the Mavs would make history once again, this time defeating eventual National Champions, the University of Nebraska in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, making it the first program win in the national tournament.
Before her time on the lanes, Edholm was the Head Coach for the Mavericks Softball team for five seasons from 2012-2016. Medaille accumulated 65 wins during her stint as the Softball Head Coach, coaching eight student-athletes to AMCC All-Conference honors including Mary Kate Bongiovanni (’13) who was just the third player ever to be named AMCC Softball Player of the Year as a senior.
However, Edholm’s Medaille coaching journey started in 1997 when she was an Assistant Coach for the Mavericks Women’s Volleyball team for two years under Keith Koch. Laura took over for Koch in the Fall of 1999 and was the bench boss for the Mavericks for seven seasons until 2005, guiding Medaille from their transition from NSCAA to NCAA Division III.
Edholm played Division I volleyball while studying at Coastal Carolina, where in 349 sets she amassed 692 kills, 1,100 digs and 65 blocks to go along with a school record 167 service aces. She currently holds the second and third highest single season total of service aces, and in 1992 was named to the Big South All-Tournament Team.
She currently resides in Tonawanda, NY.
