Jessica Franklin will be entering her first year as Head Coach of the Medaille Field Hockey team in 2021.
Franklin is a Utica College alumnus who comes to Medaille with an extensive background in the sport of field hockey, most recently with Elmira College as a head coach. Prior to her tenure at Elmira, Franklin was an assistant coach at multiple colleges throughout the northeast.
Franklin was also a coach for the All-American Field Hockey Camps during the summer of 2017. There, she worked and developed high-school players while also working with coaches to create practice plans and ways to improve their teams. "Through the All-American Camps, I was able to really implement my type of coaching for the first time," said Franklin.
Her collegiate coaching career began in August 2014 where she joined SUNY Oswego as an assistant coach. She stayed with the program until the end of the 2016 school year where she would then head to Oberlin College as an assistant until May 2017. Following her time at Oberlin, she would add two more colleges to her resume as an assistant at Morrisville State College and Limestone College before accepting the position of head coach at Elmira College.
Franklin was a four year student-athlete at Utica College where she saw success on and off the field. Franklin was a part of a Pioneer team that won two Empire-8 Championships during her time with the program. Franklin also took two trips to the NCAA Tournament where the team cracked the Sweet Sixteen each trip. "I had the wonderful opportunity to play with a team that was so hard-working that we worked our way up the national rankings. Through our coach, we understood that it wasn't given to us. I bring that same mindset to my coaching style, you can have all the talent but someone can still out hustle you," she said.
