Big Second Half Sees Mavericks Top Bobcats

After slow start, Medaille outscored Pitt-Greensburg (54-37) in the second half en route to (86-75) win.

GREENSBURG, PA - The Medaille College Men's Basketball team traveled to Greensburg, PA for a matchup with Pitt-Greensburg in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference game.

The Bobcats looked to avenge a heartbreaking (68-67) loss earlier in the season, but entered the game with a (5-10; 3-7 AMCC) record. The Mavericks entered the game with a (9-7; 6-3 AMCC) record.

The Bobcats came out strong in the first half, outscoring the Mavericks (38-32) and taking a six-point lead into the half. UPG outshot Medaille (48.1%) to (35.9%) in the first half, and also held a (24-16) advantage on the glass.

Medaille was dominant in the second stanza though, shooting a very impressive (63.6%) from the field as they outscored UPG (54-37) en route to an (86-75) victory.

The Mavs improve to (10-7; 7-3 AMCC) with the win. UPG drops to (5-11; 3-8 AMCC).

Medaille was led offensively by Jalen Smith (Batavia, NY, Batavia), who was (7-13) from long range en route to scoring a season high (26) points for the blue and gold. Mike Hollenbeck (Ontario, NY, Wayne Central) recorded a double-double with (10) points and (11) rebounds. Jonathan Smith (Accokeek, MD, Clarion Area (PA)) and Meghale Ford (Laurel, MD, Theodore Roosevelt (DC)) both finished with (10) points a piece as well.

UPG had three players in double-figures. Cam Seigfreid scored a team-best (20) points and Jay Grubb and Kyle Bondi finished with (17) and (16) points respectively.


Medaille plays next on Wednesday when they host Hilbert College in a 6:00 pm tip-off at the Sullivan Center.
