Box Score
BUFFALO, NY - The Mavericks lost to La Roche earlier this season and wanted to avenge that game with a win against them this Satuday and that's exactly what they did. Medaille handled La Roche (85-69) Saturday afternoon in the Sullivan Center in an AMCC contest.
The Mavericks set the tempo of the game right from the start as they jump to a 7-0 in the first two minutes of the game. Medaille would continue to add to that lead throughout the half and would build it as high as nine points. La Roche did make a few runs in the half to bring the lead within one possession but Medaille would go to the half up 39-31.
Good offense and solid defense was the key for Medaille as they hit on 50% (15 of 30) from the floor along with 87.5% (7 of 8) from the free throw line. In addition, they held La Roche to only 36.4% (12 of 33) from the floor in the opening half.
The second half was a dogfight for both teams and the stats showed it. Medaille hit on only 44% (11 of 25) from the floor while La Roche was held to 31.7% (13 of 41) from the floor. While more points were scored in the second half, it was much harder to earn as both teams pressured with their defense and made it very difficult for the other team to score.
La Roche did make a run in the early part of the second half to cut Medaille's lead down to three but it wouldn't get any closer. Medaille would close the final few minutes on a run of their own and would run the lead over double digits.
Leading the Mavericks was
Robby Seyler who finished the game with (22) points and (12) rebounds while
Ryan Grandits chipped in (20) points and (5) rebounds.
Jammal Coleman finished with (16) points.
The Mavs (8-11, 7-5) will host Penn State-Behrend Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Sullivan Center.
