BUFFALO, NY - It didn't take the Mavericks long to get in a groove Monday night as they jumped out to a quick 15-0 lead on their way to a (87-57) defeat of Alfred State during the first game of the Knee Center Holiday Tournament.
The Mavericks offense started off fast as they led by as many as 29 points in the opening half in route to a 45-point first half. This is a good sign for the Mavericks as they have struggled to get consistency going early in games. The defense also stepped up for Medaille as they held Alfred State to only 24 first half points and caused (10) turnovers.
In addition, the Mavericks outrebounded Alfred State in the first half 22-9 and didn't allow them a single offensive rebound.
The second half was more of the same for Medaille as they continued to surge offensively. They hit on 50% (15 of 30) of their shots and 50% (6 of 12) of their three point attempts. They also outrebounded Alfred State 21-14 in the second half.
Medaille never let it get close in the second half as they kept trading baskets with Alfred State. The Mavericks controlled the paint overall as they outscored their opponent 16-8 in second chance points.
Leading the Mavericks overall was
Jammal Coleman who finished the game with (20) points while
Louie Oliveri totaled (15) points and (6) total rebounds. In addition,
Robby Seyler notched (10) points in the game as well.
In the second game of the tournament, Brockport State beat Hamilton (74-62) and will be Medaille in the final tomorrow at 3 p.m. Hamilton will play Alfred State in the consolation game tomorrow at 1 p.m.
