Mavs Win Non-Conference Finale against Elmira (1-0)

Mitchell Ali scored in the (74') to secure the victory

BUFFALO, NY – The Medaille College Men's Soccer Team had their final home game of the regular season this afternoon when they hosted Elmira College in a non-conference matchup.

Medaille was able to get a late goal from Mitchell Ali and and held for the (1-0) win in their home regular season finale.

Medaille had their first opportunity of the game in the (15') when Elmira committed a foul in the box to give Medaille a penalty kick. Emmanuel Mante (Accra, Ghana, New Nation) took the penalty kick, but Elmira's Jordan Hodlofski made a diving save to keep the game knotted at (0-0).

Medaille and Elmira played the rest of the first half to a stalemate with Medaille holding a slight advantage in shots (7-3), both teams only had one shot on goal apiece.

The game remained tied (0-0) well into the late part of the second half when Medaille's Mitchell Ali (Southend, England, Southend) was able to break to tie with the first and only goal of the game. Ali played a header on a long pass from defender Levi Bojang (London, England, St. Aloysius) that soared over Elmira GK Jordan Hodlofski and rolled into the back of the net. The goal was Ali's fifth of the season.

Elmira answered back with some serious pressure in the later part of the second half but was unable to get anything past senior GK Brian Arcara (Orchard Park, NY, Orchard Park) who made three saves in the game with two saves coming in the later portion of the second half.

With the win, Medaille improves to (10-3-2) the loss drops Elmira to (4-9-1).

The Mavericks will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Steubenville, OH for the AMCC Game of the Week. Kickoff is scheduling for 3:15 pm.
