Dan Patrone is entering his first season as Head Coach of the Medaille Men's Lacrosse program. Patrone comes to Medaille from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan where he served as an Assistant Coach for the Men's Lacrosse team for three years, and also served as the Athletic Business Office Manager since November 2016.
As an Assistant Coach at Aquinas Coach Patrone served primarily as the Defensive Coordinator, developing and implementing a new team defensive, transition, and offensive system that encouraged upbeat, creative, and fast paced play. During his time at Aquinas the Saints increased their scoring output to a program high 15.47 goals per game, decreased their goals against to 10.20 per game, and ranked in the top three nationally in caused turnovers; caused turnovers per game; total shots; total points; total assists; and total saves.
"I would like to thank Athletic Director Amy DeKay and the entire search committee for the opportunity to build the Medaille program," said Coach Patrone. "In addition I would like to thank Nick Davidson, Director of Athletics at Aquinas for his mentor-ship. Additionally I owe thanks to Aquinas Head Coach Doug Seites and Hungarian National Team Head Coach Brad Jones for the opportunity to grow on their staffs. I'd also like to thank my former student-athletes at Aquinas for buying in to the culture we built and trusting the coaching staff for the last three and a half years. Finally, I'd like to thank my wife Haley, for her love, support, and encouragement throughout my coaching career."
Prior to his three years in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Patrone paced the sidelines as an Assistant Coach at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana; Wilmington College in Wilmington, Ohio; and Walnut Hills High School in Cincinnati, Ohio where he served as Defensive Coordinator at all three stops and had a hand in all aspects of the Men's Lacrosse programs.
"I'm most excited about the opportunity to build a strong culture within the Medaille Lacrosse program," explained Coach Patrone when asked what he was looking forward to most. "The players I've met have been amazing ambassadors for the school and the Mavericks athletic program and they deserve the chance to compete for a NEAC championship."
The Mavericks finished with a 1-14 record overall in 2017 and will be looking to get a fresh start under Coach Patrone's tutelage.
"I'm a firm believer that culture is everything within any organization or family, and that will be the biggest goal for the Mavs program," said Coach Patrone when asked about putting his own signature on the program. "As a program our focus is going to be on controlling the controllables, working hard every day, and building trust and kindness within our team, our athletics department, and our Buffalo community."
