Medaille College Athletic Director, Amy M. DeKay, introduced Russell Allen as the next head coach of the Women's Lacrosse program.
"Russell brings to the position valuable coaching experience as well as local knowledge of the recruiting market," DeKay said in a statement.  "His high school head coaching experience combined with his local contacts will take the program to the next level. He is an alumnus of Medaille, where he was a multi-sport athlete, making him very familiar with the Medaille Community."
Allen is a native of Orange, Connecticut and graduated from Medaille in 2008. Â While he attended Medaille he was a member on both the men's soccer team and the men's lacrosse team. Â
While playing at Medaille, he played for current men's soccer coach Dan Krzyzanowicz and former men's lacrosse coach Mike Carbery. Â
While playing soccer, he appeared in (57) games and scored (8) goals. Â He was a member of the back-to-back AMCC Championship teams and was on the 2006 squad that set the Medaille record for wins in a season with (20-1-1) overall record, which still stands.
While playing lacrosse at Medaille, Allen played midfield and appeared in (33) games over three seasons. He recorded (7) goals, (9) assists and (148) groundballs over the three seasons.  During the 2007 season, Allen's (5.45) groundballs per game ranked him (49th) nationally in Division III.
Allen first began coaching lacrosse during the offseason while in college, back home in Connecticut. While he was playing collegiately, he suffered a knee injury. While rehabbing he became involved with the Lady Mavs lacrosse program as a volunteer student assistant. This was when he really fell in love with coaching.Â
Since graduating he has been involved with Buffalo Youth Lacrosse and most recently he was the head coach at The Buffalo Seminary School. Â
Â
Allen plans to take the women's lacrosse program to the next level by expanding the recruiting efforts. He also prides himself on motivating his student-athletes to push themselves further than they think they can go. "I truly believe that every day is an opportunity to improve yourself, and it makes me proud as a coach to see my student athletes grow," Allen explained. "I expect my student athletes to work on becoming better lacrosse players each day. I believe if we as a team can fully embrace that philosophy, we will move in the right direction."
