GENESEO, N.Y. – After two straight wins, the Medaille University field hockey team fell to the Geneseo Knights 0-11.
The Knights charged down the field taking 14 shots within the first ten minutes of the game. The Maverick defense blocked a pair of shots,
Cassandra Diodate (East Amherst, NY, Williamsville North) made a defensive save, and
Kristyn Clare (Rochester, NY, East Irondequoit) made three saves as Medaille fell behind 0-6.
The Knights added three more goals in the second quarter with Clare picking up five more saves. Late in the quarter,
Cassie Deppner (Burlington, ON, Nelson) chipped the ball over a defender and drove up the field putting a shot on target. Diodate had a shot that was blocked and the Geneseo goaltender saved a shot from
Justine Laverty (Middleport, NY, Royalton Hartland) as the second quarter expired.
The Mavericks tightened up on defense allowing only two more goals, with two blocked shots, and another save from Clare. The Knights closed out the game with the win after taking 34 total shots to Medaille's three.
Laverty and Deppner each finished with a shot on goal while
Olivia Carr (West Falls, NY, East Aurora) made two saves, and Clare finished the day with ten saves.
The Mavericks will get back to action on Friday, September 30 for a road game against St. John Fisher at 6:00 p.m.
