Mavericks Drop Two to Bobcats

Pitt-Greensburg Takes Both Games, 11-3 and 17-11

GREENSBURG, P.A. – The Medaille College baseball team faced the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats Monday afternoon for an AMCC double header. The Mavericks dropped both games to the Bobcats losing 3-11 and 11-17.

GAME ONE

Ean Pokorski (Amherst, NY, Sweet Home) took the mound for the Mavericks and had the first hit of the game with a double to left field. Josh Wolski (Amherst, NY, Amherst) hit a single up the middle but the game remained scoreless after two innings of play. The Bobcats took care of business in the bottom of the third with four singles, a double, and a triple for a 5-0 lead.

The Mavericks responded with singles from Aaron Huddleston (Kenmore, NY, Kenmore East) and Nolan Gallagher (Hamilton, ON, Bishop Tonnos) with Huddleston and Anthony DeJoseph (West Seneca, NY, West Seneca West) scoring to put Medaille within three runs. The Bobcat offense picked up where they left off adding three more runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Huddleston hit his second single of the game in the top of the sixth and Tyler Siwek (Hamburg, NY, Hamburg) hit a single to center to put Huddleston in scoring position. DeJoseph brought him in for a run before the Bobcats turned a double play to end the inning. Greensburg picked up three more runs in the bottom of the sixth and secured an 11-3 win.

The Mavs were led by Huddleston who went 2-3 with two runs scored. Pokorski went 1-4 with a double and Siwek, Gallagher, and Wolski all went 1-3. DeJoseph finished with one run scored and two RBI's. Pokorski faced 27 batters in 4.1 innings pitched.

GAME TWO

The Mavs capitalized on a few Bobcat errors with Pokorski scoring the opening run of the game. Greensburg responded with a triple in the bottom of the first and tied the score at one. Medaille had a huge inning offensively with singles from Derek Holtz (Akron, NY, Akron), Pokorski, Huddleston, and Siwek. Gallagher had a two RBI double and the Mavericks jumped out in front 6-1. Singles from Pokorski and Huddleston extended Medaille's lead by another run after three innings of play.

Neither team added any runs in the fourth inning and the Bobcats took all the momentum in the fifth inning. The Mavs gave up 12 runs and ten total hits in the bottom of the fifth putting them behind 7-13. Siwek and Wolski added singles in the top of the sixth with the Mavs picking up two more runs but the Bobcats came right back with two runs of their own.

Holtz kicked off the top of the seventh inning with a homerun and Huddleston also hit a homerun two at bats later. DeJoseph hit a double to left field but the Bobcat defense closed out the inning leading 17-11. The Mavericks gave it all they had over their next two at bats but could not overcome the deficit, losing 17-11.

Huddleston led the Mavs going 3-5 with a homerun, two RBI's, and two runs scored. Holtz went 2-3 with a homerun, one RBI, and three runs scored. Pokorski and Wolski both went 2-4 and DeJoseph and Gallagher went 1-4 with doubles and Gallagher picked up a team-high three RBI's. Samuel Beutler (Cheektowaga, NY, Depew) led the Mavs on the mound throwing 4.1 innings giving up five earned runs and striking out four.

The Mavericks will close out their season on the road on Wednesday, May 4 at Mount Aloysius with game one starting at 1:00 P.M.
