CRESSON, P.A.- The women's lacrosse team traveled to Mount Aloysius for their UEC conference match-up. The Mavs extend their winning streak to five to put them 7-7 on the season and 3-2 in conference play.
The Mavs started the game with the draw control attained by
Katelynn Deveans (Clinton, NY, Clinton). The Mounties scored the first goal of the game but were answered with a goal from
Cameron Briggs (West Seneca, NY, West Seneca East) assisted by
Sara Geiser (West Seneca, NY, Mount Mercy Academy). The Mavs were eager and quickly scored another goal by Geiser to grab the lead. Deveans was a force on offense scoring three more goals in the quarter with assists from Geiser and
Irelyne Tarbell (Akwesasne, NY, Salmon River). Briggs finished off the quarter scoring two more goals for the Mavs that were both assisted by Geiser. The end of the quarter ended 7-2.
The second quarter was less exhilarating compared to the first.
Olivia Richardson-Isaac (Woodbridge, VA, C. D. Hylton) was able to cause multiple turnovers for the Mounties to protect the lead for the Mavs. With just under five minutes left in the half Briggs was able to put the ball in the back of the net, assisted by Geiser. Briggs and Geiser did it again with just 15 seconds left on the clock to put the Mavs up 9-3 to finish the half.
The Mavs came out of halftime with the same intensity as the first with a goal by Deveans assisted by Geiser. Briggs was successful on a free position shot and was followed by another goal made by Deveans assisted by Geiser.
Tatiana Wright (Stratford, CT, Bunnell) held her ground in goal making multiple saves for the Mavs. Geiser scored back to back off two free position shots to run away with the lead for the Mavs. Geiser was feeding the team assisting Briggs with another goal. Man-down Deveans scored her sixth goal of the game and Geiser had her 11
th assist of the game. The Mavs ended the third quarter with a goal scored by
Kara Anderson (Mississauga, ON, Lorne Park Secondary), assisted by Geiser to put the Mavs up 17-5.
In the fourth quarter, Deveans scored a goal assisted by Geiser. A ground ball picked up by Geiser resulted in a goal for the Mavs. The Mounties were able to get many shots off but Wright continued to stay strong in goal leaving them scoreless for the quarter. The final score was 19-5.
Geiser finished the game with 13 assists and four goals. Deveans and Briggs each had seven goals. Briggs, Anderson, and Wright each picked up three ground balls.
The Mavs have their final regular-season game at home on Saturday, April 30 at 2:00 p.m. against Morrisville State College.
