PITTSBURGH, P.A. – The Medaille College women's lacrosse team continued their impressive win streak by beating La Roche University. The Mavs made it four in a row with a 22-1 victory over the Redhawks. Medaille moves to 6-7 on the season and 2-2 in the conference.
Katelynn Deveans (Clinton, NY, Clinton) put the Mavericks on the board after a minute of play with a goal off of a free position shot. Deveans secured the draw control and
Kara Anderson (Mississauga, ON, Lorne Park Secondary) scored 30 seconds later assisted by
Irelyne Tarbell (Akwesasne, NY, Salmon River).
Sara Geiser (West Seneca, NY, Mount Mercy Academy) scored at 11:12 to put Medaille up 3-0 and force a Redhawk timeout. After the timeout,
Erin Hardick (Buffalo, NY, Sacred Heart) found the back of the net assisted by Tarbell.
Cameron Briggs (West Seneca, NY, West Seneca East) got in on the scoring frenzy with two straight goals both assisted by Geiser. Geiser added two more goals, one assisted by
Emma Grimm (Watertown, N.Y., Watertown), with Anderson, Briggs, and Deveans adding goals within the last four minutes of the first quarter.
Medaille started the second quarter with an 11-0 lead over La Roche. Deveans scored Medaille's 12
th goal of the game with help from Geiser.
Tatiana Wright (Stratford, CT, Bunnell) continued to make saves and keep the Redhawks scoreless. Briggs tallied another goal assisted by Geiser and Hardick stormed down the field for her second goal of the game.
The Mavericks went into the third quarter with a 14-0 lead. It took five minutes of play before the Mavs got the offense rolling again. Anderson and Briggs both scored two solo goals with Deveans adding another to put Medaille ahead 19-0.
Deveans was on a roll to start the fourth quarter with three straight goals for the Mavericks. Geiser assisted her second goal and the Mavs' lead jumped to 22-0. The Redhawks capitalized on a Maverick turnover for their first goal of the game. The Mavs finished the game winning 18 draw controls, forcing 13 turnovers, and took 34 shots.
Geiser led the Mavericks with three goals and eight assists while forcing three turnovers. Deveans led in goals with seven and added four ground balls. Briggs had six goals and one assists with seven ground balls and four caused turnovers. Anderson and Hardick each tallied two goals and Wright finished with five saves. Tarbell had two assists and Grimm added on assist in the win.
The Mavs will return to play tomorrow on April 23 at Mount Aloysius. The game is set for a 1:00 P.M. start.
