Baseball Swept in AMCC Double-Header

Mavs drop two to the Lions

ERIE, PA – The Medaille baseball team took on Penn State Behrend in a conference double-header that resulted in a sweep of the Mavericks. The Mavs scored six runs on the Lions in game one but that wouldn't be enough as they took the 18-6 loss.

Patrick Gavigan (Orchard Park, NY, Orchard Park) got the ball for game one in what would be his first start on the mound in his career.

The Lions would quickly plate nine runs in the first two innings. The Mavs would get one back in the third inning off a Patrick Whelan (West Seneca, NY, Bishop Timon) single, scoring Jordeyn Lewis (Dallas, GA, Allatoona).

With the Mavs trailing 18-4 in the seventh innings, they would add two to their tallies coming from an Ean Pokorski (Amherst, NY, Sweet Home) sacrifice fly and an Alfredo Aponte (Rochester, NY, School of the Arts) RBI-single.

The Mavs would be shutout in game two with the Lions securing the 8-0 victory, finishing a sweep of the Mavs.

Tre Larue would collect his first collegiate base hit in game two and it would be the only hit for the Mavs.

Anthony DeJoseph (West Seneca, NY, West Seneca West), Whelan and Pokorski all had three hits for the Mavs with all three driving in at least one run. Aponte finished the day with two hits with an RBI.

The Mavs are back in action on Friday as they head to Pitt-Bradford for another conference double-header. First pitch is set for 1 PM.
