BUFFALO, NY – Medaille College and South Buffalo Development LLC held a joint ceremonial groundbreaking on Monday afternoon, announcing plans for a new $4 million facility located at 427 Elk Street at the former Buffalo Color site.
Dubbed the Medaille Sports Complex at Buffalo Color Park, the new athletic facility will house both the men's and women's soccer programs as well as the men's and women's lacrosse programs over nearly six acres worth of land. In addition to the outdoor athletic turf field that the Mavericks will call home, there will be 26,400-square foot indoor field house that will house locker rooms, an athletic training facility, weight rooms, as well as meeting and classrooms for the teams on site.
"Medaille College is excited to be planning a home base for our athletes, particularly in soccer and lacrosse, where they can both practice and host home games," said Medaille President Kenneth M. Macur to the Buffalo News earlier this month. "We are grateful to Jon Williams and his team for their leadership and insight and look forward to a rewarding partnership as we bring this project to fruition."
"We're thrilled to partner with Medaille to present the college's student athletes with quality facilities in the city of Buffalo, and to return a long-vacant parcel of land in the Elk Street neighborhood to productive use," added Williams in a joint statement to the Buffalo News. "This project is indicative of the continued, exciting evolution of Buffalo, especially as the city's economic renaissance pushes southward from downtown."
There were more than 40 student-athletes present at the ceremonial ground breaking, including members of both soccer and lacrosse programs, to celebrate this historic event. Work has already started at Buffalo Color Park, and it won't be long until the Mavericks are playing at Medaille Sports Complex. As always keep connected to all the latest news on
