It was a total team effort that saw all fifteen Maverick players find their way onto the scoresheet with the Medaille reserves outscoring the entire Lions team.
It was clear from the opening tip that it would be a long day for the visitors as the Mavs netted the first ten points of the game and never looked back. The Mavs were surgical on offense as they cycled through their offensive sets with precision while knocking down shots at a (55.4%) clip. The most impressive stat of the day was that Medaille had (29) assists on (31) made field goals, while also connecting on (52.0%) of their three point field goal attempts and (84.6%) of their shots from the charity stripe.
The games two most impressive performers came off the Medaille bench as
Sean Bellomo was (7 for 8) from the floor for a game high (14) points and
Josh Laureano had a huge day as he dished out a career high (7) assists and blocked a career best (4) shots from his point guard position. The Mavs blocked a season high nine shots in the win.
The Medaille defense was stingy all afternoon as they limited Altoona to just (31.1%) shooting from the floor and a paltry (7.4%) from behind the arc. The Mavs forced the Lions into (20) turnovers and turned those miscues into (32) points at the other end of the floor. The Maverick starters finsihed the game (11 for 17) from the field in limited action.
Rookie
Cooper Calzonetti came off the bench to net a career best (7) points on (3 of 6) shooting, which included knocking down the first three pointer of his career. Both
Joe Palumbo and
Phil Stasiak went (2 for 3) from the floor and (1 for 2) from downtown for five points each.
The win boosts the Mavs record to (13-2) overall and (7-1) in AMCC play. The Mavs now sit alone atop the conference standings as they head into a huge game on Monday (1/16) at crosstown rival D'Youville College at 1:00pm. The Spartans are currently in a second place tie in the AMCC.
