James McNeil transferred to Medaille as a sophomore, and in three years amassed 1,501 points. He held the record for most career points until 2015. He holds the second spot in the record books today. McNeil is ranked in the top-10 in several categories and still holds several records. In 2005-06, he finished seventh in the country in points per game with 25.3. McNeil was a three-time AMCC All-Conference selection; third team in 2006, and second team in 2007 and 2008.
McNeil holds three individual game records, and is tied for first in one more. In 2006 in arguably the biggest game of his career, McNeil scored 48 points; the most points scored in a game in Maverick history. In the same game, he made 19 field goals, and made seven three-pointers. All of these in his first season at Medaille. He holds the top spot for field goals made and field goal attempts, and is tied for first in three-point field goals made in a single game.
In individual career history, McNeil remains in the top ten in 16 categories. McNeil is currently the all-time career leader in field goals attempted with 1,282. He is second in points with 1,501, three-pointers made with 177, and three-pointers attempted with 554. He has a career scoring average of 19.8, putting him in the third spot in the record books. These numbers were put up in only three years as a Maverick.
