Erik Hartman was a key member of the Men's Volleyball team from 2003 - 2006. Playing during a time when the NCAA did not offer a Division III Championship for Men's Volleyball, Hartman helped create one of Medaille's most successful programs during his four year stretch.
During his time as a Maverick, Medaille captured their only North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) title in 2004, with Erik being named the NECVA Tournament MVP. This earned an automatic bid to the Molten Division III Men's Invitational Volleyball Championship, which was the equivalent of today's NCAA Tournament. They made it to the Molten Final Four in back-to-back years in 2004 and 2005; finishing as runner-ups in 2004.
That 2004 season saw the Mavericks defeat UC Santa Cruz (3-1) in the first National Semifinal to advance to Medaille's only appearance in a National Title Game. The Mavericks fell to Juniata in the title game, in what would turn out to be Juniata's first of four straight National Titles. In that title game Erik led the Mavericks with seven kills on 22 attempts, chipping in with three digs and two block assists. His performance earned him a spot on the All-Tournament Team for the Molten Final Four.
Over his final three seasons (2004-2006) Medaille was ranked in the AVCA Division III Top 15 Coaches Poll for 41 straight weeks, never once falling out of the top 15 during that time. Even more impressive is Erik and Medaille spent 19 straight weeks inside the top 10, spanning the entire 2005 season and getting as high as 4th three times.
He finished his career ranked in the top ten in seven different categories, and at the time of graduation, he was the all-time leader in kills with (1,009).
"I'm honored to be a part of this," Hartman said. "It's a privilege to be the first husband and wife in the hall of fame. Proud to be the first of many great volleyball players this school has had."
